Premature graying

Hair is important for our overall physical appearance and self-perception. Graying of hair is part of becoming old. Though premature graying can be a sign of an autoimmune disorder (e.g. Hashimoto thyroiditis, vitiligo, pernicious anaemia). A role for environmental factors and nutritional deficiencies is also hypothesized.

The epidemiological and investigative study of premature graying of hair in higher secondary and pre-university school children shows that premature graying of hair is genetically predisposed and it is related to low S. Ferritin, S. Ca and vitamin D3 levels.
